Monoblock Bottom Bracket

This is the third pair of bearings I’m going to install. I do a regular use of the machine but you would expect a longer life. They look solid but don’t last. The cross trainer itself is great and good value for money but this component is bad. Expect to change it once or twice a year…

Ordered this as replacement for the EL120, as the dedicated crankset for it does not seem to have bearings with it! Decathlon already repaired this machine under warranty. 6 months on, I took apart to find bearings chewed up again, This slightly shorter crank fits the 120 fine, but the machining of the bearings is rough. I packed with an expensive grease. But it was not possible to set the bearings properly due to poor manufacturing tolerance:. Bearings can be tight at 12 o'clock then have play at 6 o'clock. And yes, the bearing cups are installed properly. I used for 1 hour then took belt off and checked, found play in the bearing and set / locked it again. The problem is that metal fragments will quickly end up in the grease and it will just chew itself up again. You can see the crank is not square on its full rotation when the case cover is off & you can spin more freely. The cups that came out had 4 hairline cracks in them. This is the 3rd crankset for this machine in 18 months. I'm 75kg, max user weight is 100kg. I don't use above setting 10 of 15. Design of these machines/parts is actually good, but this part is let down by quality control. I still recommend as 25 Euros every 6 months is cheaper than a new machine...
