Faulty by design

I've lot the count of the amount of time I've spend trying to re-index my gears and asking myself why the hell the chain was going down 4-5 cogs with a single shifter click. By the time I opened the shifter lever to see its internals I finally noticed the spring/cog system completely opens and jumps multiple steps with a click. So it is faulty. Then I come here to try to replace it and find that: 1) There are plenty of reviewers that ended here after having the same issue. 2) Microshift has some sort of global shortage and this lever is not available on Decathlon or anywhere else, making the replacement impossible. The only good thing is that is Shimano compatible, and that MicroNew versions are available from China. So here I am, buying a chinese knockoff because I cannot even buy this piece again, even when knowing it is faulty. Why does Decathlon keeps using this faulty shifter?

Cheap, but failed after only 3 months

I have only had this shifter for 3 months and it has failed. I see from other reviews, there is a generic fault with this item. Others have had the same failure. The shifter jumps when changing to smaller cogs/up in gear. It seems to be caused by wear on the ratchet mechanism. I have no option but to use this shifter. There are no alternatives in this price range. I will try another in the hope I will get lucky. I am very disappointed with Decathlons response to my problem. I wanted them to reserve a replacement shifter for me when new stock arrived, but they said I should order on-line. When I went to do this, there was no way to reserve one in my local store . When I asked for further assistance, I got no reply. With any item failures can happen, What THE most important outcome is how the seller deals with the failure. In this case Decathlon have absolutely failed!

update to "Works perfectly but ..."

I visited the Decathon store in Reading to discuss the fact that the lever seem a bit twisted. One of the bike mechanics (an Italian guy) was extremely helpful and showed me several other bikes with the same shifter fitted. This seems to be the way that it is designed and with that additional knowledge I am alot happier. I could buy the 3 speed left shifter so that they match but it works fine and so I am not that bothered. Thanks Decathon. 1st class service. On that basis I have changed my mind and I would definitely, now, recommend this product.
