Product Reviews

This item is unreliable it is not accurate and indicates chains are past .75 worn when in-fact the chain is not even past 0.5% As a result of this i have been wasting money replacing chains earlier than they need to be changed when they still have a lot of life left on them I have now purchased a Park Tools cc3.2 chain checker which is far more accurate and reliable
It is not clear in the description that this measures .75 & 1 mm wear. This is ok for up to 10 speed chains but not 11&12 speed chains that should be changed once the chain has stretched to .5mm. Otherwise a good tool.
Does the job, will be monitoring chain habitually now
Good value for bike tool for armature user
Every biker should have one.
I have used this Decathlon checker for three years to check an 8-speed drivetrain using the 1-10 speed end of the tool (0.75-1.0% wear). I recently bought a new road bike with 11-speed Shimano 105 groupset and KMC X11 chain. After 4 weeks and about 400 miles I checked chain wear using the 10-12 speed end of the tool (0.2-0.5% wear). Oddly, the Decathlon tool was showing the chain as almost worn. The tool was not yet lying totally flat on the chain, but the end had fallen substantially into the space between the two outer plates. This made no sense on a practically new chain. So I bought the chain checker from a very famous American bike tool company to compare, and this time the 0.5% wear end did not drop into the gap at all. This was the expected result for an almost new chain. I also compared the 0.75% end in the 8-speed chain on my older bike. Again the Decathlon tool dropped significantly, but the tool from the American company showed no wear. This figured, because the 8-speed chain has also done fewer than 400 miles. The Decathlon tool is simply not accurate, full stop; I have also certainly been changing my 8-speed chains in the past too quickly because of it, and thus wasting money. It is £5-6 cheaper than the American company's checker, but over time you will waste much more money replacing chains too soon, if you use the Decathlon tool. Better to pay a little more upfront and save much more money in the longer term. You only buy a chain wear tool once, so make sure that you buy a market-leading one, and not the offering from Decathlon!
I've just bought this gauge along with two SRAM PC1110 11 speed chains. Out of curiosity I checked one of the new chains and the gauge showed that it is already 0.5% stretched and so theoretically needs to changed. Same for the other chain so this is no fluke, this gauge is absolutely useless! Would give minus stars if I could as I had to spend money to get to the store to pick it up so am now down money and still no working chain gauge.
As i have a new bike, i have not had the chance to use it yet. Triban Rider, not Large.
Excellent product!
Not used just yet but seems a sturdy price of essential kit.
I am usually satisfied with Decathlon products but this is the only time I have reason to review adversely. I have used this chain wear indicator for 6 months and wondered why my 11 speed chains, according to this, have shown to need replacing after on average 6 weeks. I don’t ride hard and only do about 600 miles in that time on the road bike. I maintain and lube after every other ride. I purchased 2 of these as l lost one, but on both of them, I found that when I placed the indicator on a new chain, the indicator showed the chain partially worn which I found strange but thought that was how it is. I then suspected it to give incorrect readings resulting in premature chain replacement and went to a shop to have it measured using a Park Tool CC-3.2 and realised that I have been discarding chains well before they needed replacing. I purchased a Park Tool chain wear indicator and I use this instead of the Decathlon product as it is not correctly sized. On this basis, I can not recommend this product and recommend the Park Tool indicator..
Please feel free to return it to us for a refund or an exchange.

Built my own ebike was worried about chain stretch this works a treat
Not much more to say
I checked it on my 2 week old rc100 which ran for 500km, and it showed that the chain has worn out completely 1% stretch
Thank you for taking the time out to review our product, chain wear within 2 weeks of purchase of your bike, is something that shouldn't happen.
I would request you to bring the bike to one of our nearest Decathlon so our Technician can check the wear on the chain.
Also attaching a video reference on how to use the chain tool, to make sure you are following the correct method.
I remain available for any doubts.
