Architecture, tent poles and tent pegs

Lightweight shatterproof and frost-proof aluminium tent poles: 7001 Ø 8.5 mm.Tent pegs/stakes:Length 17 cm, Ø 6.1 mm.Non-anodised 7075 aluminium for maximum strength and lightness while lowering the environmental impact.Traditional dome shape to make the structure free-standing. A front tent pole with a peak provides additional volume and therefore a more habitable porch.

Pitching/striking

Extremely quick pitching/striking. The flysheet and bedroom are pre-assembled. Insert the tent poles into the flysheet cover. It is also quick to strike. To store the tent in its bag, fold the tent in half to about the length of the bag, fold up the poles into a bundle onto the bedroom or flysheet, roll everything up tightly to slide into the bag.

Waterproofing

The Forclaz tents are tested fully pitched in the laboratory: 200 L/sqm/h for 3 hours, i.e. equivalent to a tropical rain shower. They are also tested in the field by a sample user group.75-denier PES polyester flysheet and groundsheet, polyurethane coating on the inside, water repellent treatment on the outside.Seams taped with heat-sealed strips.Multi-component & water repellent 75D polyester bedroom that is breathable, provides protection from the wind and reduces condensation.

Wind resistance

We test all our tents in a wind tunnel on a turntable where we can expose each side of the tent to the wind.To test its wind resistance, the tent must be properly pitched, taut but not stretched, with all the guy ropes in position around the tent. It should remain habitable at wind speeds of 60km/h, measured near ground level. Our tents are certified by the CSTB independent laboratory in Nantes.

Ventilation and condensation prevention

Bedroom with mosquito screen for ventilation and water-repellent fabric to protect from condensation and draughts. There is an air vent at the back of the tent.To reduce condensation inside the tent, it must be correctly assembled with a taut canvas, but not excessively so. The use of the air vent and good air circulation reduces moisture inside.

Seasons

3-season tent: your tent will protect you from the harsh weather conditions you can encounter in the spring, summer or autumn. It will withstand light snowfall but is not designed to withstand heavy loads that would weigh on the structure. In case of snow, remember to shake your tent regularly in order to bring down any snow that has accumulated to avoid putting too much weight on the structure of your tent.

Environmental approach

Textile dyeing requires a lot of water but also produces waste water from the dye baths. To reduce this impact on the environment, for the grey fabric on the bedroom we use a process called “bi-ton” which only dyes one yarn out of every two. This dyed yarn is also made from a bulk dyeing process which incorporates the colour pigments from the yarn manufacturing phase onwards. This process reduces this product’s CO2 emissions

Additional sustainable development information

The pegs are not coloured or anodised (no acid is used). They may have a rough or used appearance but still have all their technical features. These actions help to reduce the environmental impact of your product.

Repairs and after-sales service

As designers, we care about the durability of our products, which is why all our tents are designed to be repairable. You will find the detachable parts (poles, bedroom, etc.) in store or in the workshop of your local Decathlon, or on the website. If you have a problem, don't hesitate to have your tent looked at in your local Decathlon store.Repair kit (ferrule, patch): 20 g

Durability

Your tent is designed for itinerant bivouacking, it is therefore not designed for static use in the sun.We recommend that you avoid leaving it in the sun as the ultra-light fabrics can be sensitive to UV light, that damages them.

Hikios

Zipper = poor quality

Great tent overall, however the main zipper of front door catches (small break) and does not open / closes smoothly… I hope it won’t break after 2 uses. Does not seem great for a brand new tent not used yet … Otherwise it seems great, light and easy to use.

Defective design

The arch pole over the entrance is too long so cannot fit through the tent / be connected. After translating the 1 star reviews, it seems this is also a known problem in France and Germany. I tried to call Decathlon Greenwich in the UK to consider a repair / for them to shorten the pole but no one picked up the phone. So instead I had to just get a refund via WhatsApp (since the general contact centre apparently can’t arrange repairs). Glad I tested the tent in my living room rather than the freezing cold campsites of Norway! Usually a big fan of Decathlon quality but very disappointed by this faulty design!!
