Inexpensive down jacket

Been out with ppl wearing a compact down jacket when the temperature drops, montaine, North Face etc, none of us can fault this jacket for warmth, waterproof it's not! But it's purpose is to keep you warm when it's dry and cold and at a fraction of the price, packs up into its own pocket really small, (you will need to google it), would make a good pillow if you were freestyliing it in a tent or bivvy. Excellent equipment!!

Great down jacket

Have used the jacket several times. Fits well does an excellent job and with layers is more than warm enough. Very happy with jacket.exceptional value.

Cold jacket that doesnt meet the spec stated

This is the coldest downjacket i have owned. It does to match any of the other 800 fill coats i own. I would highly recommend not buying this and spending the extra to get a decent one.

Trek 100 down jacket

I had read through dozens of reviews on this particular jacket. I had never purchased anything from Decathlon. I love this lightweight down jacket it packs up into its own pocket and weighs nothing. My brother has since purchased one after trying mine out. Great quality and excellent value for the money. Thank you

Down Jacket

This has just arrived, promptly delivered.. I bought this for cooler/winter evenings when wild camping, or nights, sleeping wild.(NW Europe) As yet I can't comment on on it's warmth, but there are many You Tube videos commending it's efficacy. It seems well made and the main zip has a nice anti snag panel running the full length behind it. It is incredibly light, and thinner than I imagined; but again further research indicates that any judgement of warmth should not be based on the thickness alone of the jacket. It is filled with ethically sourced (ie the birds are dead prior to plucking) down and feather. The fit is certainly at least one, if not two sizes smaller than you may imagine, though the sleeves with elasticated inner cuffs are plenty long enough. Arguably.... I could have gone to a 3xl and not the 2 xl that I have: I am a 45 inch chest with a tape measure, and the 2xl on the sizings chart, suggests it is for 48 inch chests. I have no reason to think that this jacket will be any thing other than ideal for my chosen use, and have bought Decathlon jackets (Tribord offshore Ozean 900) before, and that has been as good as anything twice the price. At the price of this jacket , it seems to be also excellent value.

Very happy with the down warmth of the jacket. Lightweight and compact as it rolls up into one of the pockets.

Country walking magazine best buy

This is the second Country walking magazine Best Buy that I have purchased and I have not been disappointed. The jacket is iight weight, compact yet incredibly cosy and I wear it for most outdoor activities I thought that not having a drawstring around the hood was a disadvantage but it is such a good fit it doesn’t need one This jacket is extremely good value for money but you must be careful as I don’t think it is particularly thornproof

How warm is this padded jacket?

This padded jacket, worn as a 3rd layer, has been certified for an active comfort temperature of -5°C during a standardised test in a thermal chamber. The model is wearing a synthetic long-sleeved T-shirt and a light fleece underneath. It works with a simulated 5 km/h wind. We have also tested this model in static mode. Its temperature rating is +5°C in this case.

The advantages of a duck down and feather filling

The filling power of down has 3 advantages for mountain sports:- Thermal insulation thanks to the air trapped in the down and feathers.- Ultra lightweight: down is lighter than synthetic wadding while offering the same degree of warmth. This saves even more weight in your backpack.- Ultra compressibility.

How to measure the fill power of a down and feather wadding?

The fill power is a measure of the down's thermal insulation capacity and its potential to "trap" air. It is expressed in CUIN (cubic inches). So, down with a higher fill power (higher CUIN number) will occupy more space, trap more air and provide greater thermal insulation. For this down jacket with its 85% down and 15% feathers filling, the fill power is guaranteed to be 800 CUIN or more (European standard).

What is rds certification?

RDS or “Responsible Down Standard” is a worldwide certification issued by an independent organisation to volunteer brands. This standard enables us to guarantee the origin of the feathers in accordance with our commitment to use responsible materials. Our suppliers commit to using only feathers from geese and ducks raised for their meat and slaughtered before down and feathers are collected.

Water-repellent property of component (not to be confused with waterproofing)

The water repellent property of a fabric is its ability to make water run off its surface without absorbing it. This prevents the fabric from swelling, and keeps it lightweight and warm. The fabric of this down jacket is water repellent, however, we recommend that you wear a waterproof jacket over it in case of rain. The fabric is made water-repellent by treating (PFC-free) its outer surface, however this property may deteriorate with use.We recommend that you restore it after each wash.

How to care for a down jacket?

The down jacket can be worn throughout the winter and will certainly need to be washed. But less wash it, the more thermal insulation and water repellency.Summary:1/Machine wash with detergent suitable for a a down or technical garment, at 30°, with 2 or 3 tennis balls. Gentle spin cycle.2/ tumble dry with 2 or 3 tennis balls, and repeat 2 or 3 times until it is completely dry.

How do i reactivate the waterproofing properties?

Once you have cleaned your padded jacket, we recommend you use a water-repellent reactivator spray to preserve the hydrophobic properties of the outer fabric. To renew the fabric’s water-repellent properties and optimise performance throughout the lifespan of your garment.

A snag? this is how to repair your down jacket

A tear on a padded jacket can happen when trekking! The good news is that it can be repaired so the tear doesn’t get any bigger or to stop the feathers from escaping.Don't you feel at ease carrying out this repair yourself? Don't worry! Our in-store Decathlon workshops offer a repair service to mend your padded jacket using a heat-bonded patch.

A score for comparing products' environmental impact

The product's environmental impact is calculated over its entire life cycle using various indicators. A score from A to E is given to help you easily identify the most eco-friendly products by comparing products of the same type (T-shirts, trousers, backpacks, etc.) Decathlon is a voluntary supporter of this environmentally-friendly labelling approach.
