Bought to shorten reach
I got this stem about a year ago due to putting wider bars on my bike. A shorter stem really helped with the handling. The stem is minimalist, but strong. Someone else said that they wouldn't use this for mountain biking...well, I can tell you that this has been on my bike for a year, done countless trails from blue to black as well as plenty of dirt jumps. Don't worry, it's solid, just make sure you don't over torque the bolts. That's normally the reason for failure.
Good stem that reduces reach and gives a more comfortable upright position. I would hesitate to put too much stress on the bars as the screws that hold bar clamps look undersized for the strain they are likely to experience. They also look too short and only engage the body to about half the depth of the holes. Bear in mind this is aluminium alloy and a small fine thread will strip easily if slightly over tightened or repeatedly turned. The trend may well be to slim down stems for appearance sake but I would prefer them to stay a bit more chunky for confidence. I would not use this stem on a mountain bike or with wide bars....probably OK for a trekking bike.
Fitted straight on to a Specialized Rockhopper Sport 2019 29" without any issues and has really sharpened up the handling against the 100mm standard stem, seems to be made well too, bolts went in nicely and torqued up without any roughness or cross threading
